SJA’82 in the NEWS
TODAY, TWO DAYS AHEAD of the planned reunion, this page is transformed into “SJA’82 in the NEWS” from the former non-working Poll page. We have nearly reached our mission of gathering as many Philippine-based batchmates as possible for an important gathering two days hence, as well as come into contact with our friends abroad.
“SJA’82 in the NEWS” will feature batchmates who have been written about, talked about, or reached a milestone in their lives (more promotions, perhaps? Early retirement? A business or partnership opening up? and suchnot). We’re keeping the posted comments to the original page, anyhow, just so we can keep track of time and thoughts.
So…drumroll!

Our very own Marissa Dela Cruz-Galandines, now an assistant at the Office of the Solicitor-General, has been making the news round, like with the recent developments in the government’s attempt at recovery of “ill-gotten wealth” and other cases against the Marcoses and sequestered properties.

Reunion at Olen’s mom’s vigil

A poignant, but nonetheless reassuring reunion was had on April 5, 2008 at the chapel of St. John the Baptist (the Pinaglabanan Church). A Batch wreath, courtesy of Annie, took its pride of place to the right of where Mrs. Magdalena Jalandoni, Olen’s mom, lay in state.
Olen (standing, left), lively and full of stories as ever, was the composed and gracious (not to mention, funny) host to Dante (to her left) who came with Dedette, (seated, L-R) Rachel, Raul and Annie, and Louie who was with Osang. (Photo courtesy of Louie)

ON TUESDAY, 05 February, some members will hold a get-together for batchmate Chili and husband Perrins in Pier 1* at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City. This would be the first in a long a time a get-together is held for a visiting member of Batch’82 back in town (from the US) since Annaliza’s a couple of years ago. Chili is one of the most active and reliable real estate brokers in California today.
Louie R. noted, on the other hand, the inclusion of Yolanda C. to the 2008 Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA) board of Directors representing her company, Metrobank. Yoly is currently Metrobank’s AVP for Corporate Communications. PANA is the recognized national organization and regulating body of the advertising industry that seeks to promote and implement Truth in Advertising. Let’s wish Yoly another successful and productive year in PANA.
Three-term City Councilor Dante Santiago is actively proposing yet another city ordinance to help ease traffic congestion and enforce traffic rules and safety in San Juan. Dante would like to limit the use of the city’s busy roads and main thoroughfares used by driving schools and student drivers by prohibiting them from 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. on weekdays on these roads. Let’s hope Dante’s proposal, like all others he authored or co-proposed, gets the nod of the City council for the benefit everyone. Read more of Dante’s proposed ordinance here.
